Copyright and DMCA notices

LotLine respects intellectual property rights. This page explains how copyright owners can report material they believe infringes their rights and how affected users can respond.

Send a copyright infringement notice

A notice under 17 U.S.C. § 512(c) should be in writing and include all of the following:

  1. 1A physical or electronic signature of the copyright owner or a person authorized to act for the owner.
  2. 2Identification of the copyrighted work, or a representative list if the notice covers multiple works on LotLine.
  3. 3Identification of the material claimed to be infringing and enough information for us to locate it, including the relevant LotLine URL or workspace context.
  4. 4Your name, mailing address, telephone number, and email address.
  5. 5A statement that you have a good-faith belief that the disputed use is not authorized by the copyright owner, its agent, or the law.
  6. 6A statement, under penalty of perjury, that the notice is accurate and that you are the copyright owner or authorized to act for the owner.

What happens after a notice

We may remove or disable access to material when we receive a substantially complete notice, notify the affected user, request missing information, and share the notice with that user or our service providers as needed to evaluate and process it.

Counter-notices

If you believe material was removed or disabled by mistake or misidentification, send a written counter-notice containing:

  1. 1Your physical or electronic signature.
  2. 2Identification of the material that was removed or disabled and where it appeared before removal.
  3. 3A statement under penalty of perjury that you have a good-faith belief the material was removed or disabled because of mistake or misidentification.
  4. 4Your name, address, and telephone number, plus consent to the jurisdiction of the appropriate federal district court and acceptance of service from the original complainant or that person’s agent.

We may forward a complete counter-notice to the original complainant and restore the material when the law permits unless the complainant timely tells us it filed a court action.

Repeat infringement and accurate notices

In appropriate circumstances, LotLine may terminate users who repeatedly infringe copyrights. Knowingly making a material misrepresentation in a notice or counter-notice may create liability under 17 U.S.C. § 512(f). Consider speaking with qualified counsel if you are unsure whether material is infringing or protected by an exception such as fair use.
